Astronomy, one way or another, can be hooked into nearly every science there is. As you well know, as an astronomy teacher, you don’t have to want to work at Nassau to be interested in the stars, science, or rockets. Astronomy is interesting in and of itself, but with today’s technology, it can be made even more so. For those who are not already aware, there have been incredible technological advancements in both the field of astronomy and in the teaching field. Using these in combination will take your astronomy class to a whole new level.
What we currently know about astronomy would not be even remotely possible without all of the technological advancements through time. So, trying to teach your students about astronomy without utilizing the tools of technology available is selling them short, and yourself as well. Though it may seem daunting to some, today’s technology is the best teaching assistant there is. And when you use technology in the classroom, you’re speaking to your students in a language that they understand. Finally, technology can be fun for the entire class – that includes the teacher.
