Basic operations, the four operations of math (i.e. division, multiplication, subtraction, and addition) have application in even the highest, most advanced theories of mathematics. Without them, no adult can expect to make it in this complicated world – even with the help of today’s technology. It is our job as educators to make sure that students enter into the workaday world as completely and totally prepared as possible.
But integrating modern technology into today’s basic operations classrooms means more than just giving everyone a computer. Today’s ed-tech and real-world application go far beyond the basics of arithmetic eventually evolving into details involving the computation of geometric properties, the transformation of algebraic expressions, details of graphing, etc. That takes more than just a laptop. Without the proper 21st-century education, your students will be helpless in the modern world.
