Description, Learning Objective: Students will explore Newton's Laws of Motion through roller coaster design.

Procedure:

Teacher introduces Newton's Laws of Motion in class. As a reinforcement activity, teacher brings students to Amusement Park Physics website.

1. Read the Introduction, then click on The Roller Coaster and read the next page as a class.

2. Point out the Physics Glossary icon on the upper right corner where students can familiarize themselves with the proper scientific terminology.

3. Go to the Design A Roller Coaster activity. Students can complete the activity independently or in pairs, recording their design choices on the worksheet.

4. Be sure to have students click on and read the safety inspection when they finish. They should repeat the activity if they do not pass the safety inspection.

5. Teacher should review the activity with the whole class, reinforcing Newton's Laws of Motion.
